The Hallmark Tree is talk topic

Kevin Van Cleave had a role in the 2018 Capitol Christmas tree preparation, but he has had plenty of practice procuring the big holiday trees.
For the past decade, the Cascade Timber Consulting engineer has helped deliver the Hallmark holiday tree to corporate headquarters at Crown Plaza in Kansas City, Mo.
Van Cleave, of Sweet Home, will talk about those experiences as the keynote speaker at the Linn County Small Woodlands Association annual meeting.
Van Cleave, of Sweet Home, said the Hallmark “Mayor’s Tree” is harvested in Linn County and taken east by RAM Trucking.
After Christmas, he said, the remaining log is milled. It is used to create Hallmark Christmas ornaments that are sold by the corporation to fund a charity.
